Summer Sunday Worship Schedule

Well, summer is here, maybe not on the calendar just yet, but certainly on my thermometer. The mercury is pushing 98F! Don't worry, Calvary Church is air conditioned! Here are the changes for summer worship. We will continue to have services Sundays at 7:45am, 9:00am, and 11:00am. There will be nursery care and Children's Church available at the 9:00am and 11:00am services, in air conditioned rooms too!

For the summer, June 22 through August 31, Children's Church will move upstairs to the "All Saints" room. Children join their parents during service at The Peace, as usual. Older children and parents are welcomed to participate or assist too. Mother Ann, Deacon Jack, Father Harry, or a lay person wil be with the children at this time.

Parish Picnic

Our annual Parish Picnic is today, Sunday June 8th starting at 11:30am at Deer Path Park in the Cedars Pavilion. Join us for a day of worship, fellowship, food and fun! The picnic is a great opportunity to get to know other church members, or introduce your friends and neighbors to Calvary.

Hamburgers and Hot Dogs will be provided. Please bring a salad or dessert. The Youth Group has planned some new games in addition to the traditional ones.

Mutual Ministry Review Survey

The Mutual Ministry Review is a way to assess, evaluate, and celebrate the ministries of our parish. It is a process that can inspire and educate us in ways to increase our blessings through participation. It is valued information, honestly gathered for the purpose of growing in faith together.

If you need a copy of the survey it can be downloaded in PDF format here.

1. Please fill out the cover sheet. The demographics will give a better picture of the entire Calvary community.
2. Prayerfully consider each section.
3. Additional comments are welcomed.
4. Return your responses by June 22, 2008 to the collection bin in the Parish Hall.

Communion Celebration Sunday

May is a very special month for our Second Grade students as they prepare for Communion Sunday, this Sunday, May 25th. Congratulations to all the children for their hard work this year! Also a special thanks to our teachers too, for teaching and preparing our children for this blessed event!

You're invited to a spring morning at the Episcopal Convent of St. John Baptist in Mendahm NJ to tour the peaceful facility and share some quiet time. we'll be visiting on Wednesday May 21 from 9:00am until Noon. We'll meet in the Calvary parking lot at 9:00am and car pool to Mendham. Those who would like may stay for noonday prayers with the Sisters and a silent lunch. 6:30 pm Pot Luck Supper followed by Communion Rehearsals for all Communion classes at 7:00pm. Holy Eucharist will follow at 7:30pm.

Pot Luck Supper to be held in the Parish Hall. Each household brings an entree, salad or dessert. Look for a sign up sheet in the Parish Hall.

Worship at the Kapp Apartments

On Wednesday April 2 at 2pm we'll be worshiping with the residents of the Herman Kapp apartments. Our outreach to the residents is well underway, thanks to Judy Stothoff and Chris Kinnamon, our intrepid hymn singer, who shared in the Holy Communion service in March. Plans are afoot to espand our ministry with a social time after worship. Contact Rev. Ann Holt if you would like to assist with this ministry.

Internet Safety for Children presentation will be held Sunday April 6 at 10:00am. A representative of Hunterdon Prevention Resources will be with us to offer helpful advice to parents, grandparents, and all interested adults on raising our children in the Internet era. Technology presents many new new situations as we raise our children. Please plan to share in this important forum.

Souper Bowl of Caring

ON Sunday February 3rd, day of the Super Bowl game, we will be participating in the "Souper Bowl of Caring: at Calvary Church. We are asking each person to donate $1.00 to help the needy. Donations will be collected after each service. All money will be donated to the Flemington Food Pantry.

Dear Calvary Parishioners,

Proclaim the joyful message

that our God is coming to earth.

Let the valleys be filled

and the mountains made low,

preparing for his holy birth.

We will sing or say the above message before each of our services during Advent as we prepare for the celebration of Jesus' birthday at Christmas.

Think of the preparation path linking you with the birth of Jesus. Is Jesus on one side, with mountains and valleys between you and him? I know for me, it sometimes feels that way - all these things to do before I can celebrate the day of his birth.

John the Baptist will say it another way: "Make his paths straight." That is, remove the obstacles that have become mountains and valleys between you and your relationship with the Lord.

Be sure to set time aside each day ( beginning of day, meal time, and/or end of day) either individually or as a family. Take a deep breath, allow a period of silence, and pray simply. Something like "Lord, may the path between me and you be cleared to receive you in my heart at Christmas" is just fine.

God Bless you all as you prepare for the holy birth of our Lord Jesus at Christmas!

Fall Welcome Brunch Nov. 4th

A Welcome Brunch is planned for this Sunday, November 4, All Saint's Sunday, for current parishioners to meet all the newcomers and visitors to Calvary for the past year.

The Brunch will begin after the 7:45am service and run continuously through the morning until 12:30pm

As we know welcome brunches are designed to show our appreciation for visitors, brand new members, newish members, and, in fact, everyone who makes up our Calvary family! Its also a joyful time of fellowship, where all members can relax, eat great food, and chat leisurely with friends new and old.

Mark your calendars now. Lifetouch Photography Studios will be here Thursday, November 1st through Sunday, November 4th to photograph each person and family for our new photo directory. There will be no sitting charge to the parishioners. We need a few volunteers to help on those dates with the photo sessions. Thursday (Nov. 1) and Friday (Nov. 2) sessions will be in the evening. Saturday Oct. 6 Progressive Dinner

Appetizers at 6pm in the Parish Hall, dinner at Host home at 7:30pm, coffee and dessert at 9:00pm in the Parish Hall. Cost $15.00 per person. Meals and wine prepared by cooks in the morning and delivered to hosts. Hosts heat up the food to be served. Sign up sheet is in the Parish Hall. Small Group Leadership Training

Small groups are a great way to enhance fellowship among people. They also are a way to build a nd nurture effective teams for ministry.

This workshop (Sat Sep 29 9am - 3pm) will be for Calvary members who would like to learn the basics about leadership of small groups in a parish setting. We will also learn simple and fun ways to lead a basic Bible study.

Ellen Diehl-Matto, Mother Deborah, and Father Harry will lead the course.

Welcome to the Episcopal Church, Especially Calvary Church

Classes will be held on the folowing four Sundays at 12:15 p.m. after the 11:00 a.m. Eucharist: October 7, 14, 21, and 28.

The Welcome Brunch will be held on Sunday, November 4th, from 8:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m.

Welcome classes are for new and "newish" members, and for anyone interested in learning about Calvary and the Episcopal Church in general. New members will be welcomed into the Calvary community at all services on November 4th. Anyone wishing to offer their services for the Welcome Brunch, please give Ellen Diehl-Matto a call.
